The Feast of the Holy Innocents/A Christmas Carol

The Feast of the Holy Innocents/A Christmas Carol

The children are lowing,

“Be near us we pray.”

The world is not nice to us everyday.

Our fingers are earthy,

our clothes smell like pee,

our hair is lice tangled,

and the tattoos are free.

Mom has a new boyfriend

and Daddy cooks meth

Grandma is drunk when she picks us up.

The baby awakes. The baby is killed.

The night is not silent

And the heavens don’t sing.

Whose child is this?

The children’s child.

He’s homeless, hated, reviled.

He went to the tree so willingly

to save the children for free.
